Amazing stroller![]()
We got this stroller because my husband has a bad back; we love it because of so much more though!
There are few comparable strollers: the Joolz Bloom and the Skate are the only others on the market to feature a high seat for the baby. All are excellent, but the Stokke is smaller than the Skate and similar to the Bloom but without the faux Bugaboo look (which is a plus for me). The only real negative of the Stokke among the three is that you must be prepared for lots of interaction with strangers; in the first two hours I owned the stroller, I had three compliments, and one whole conversation about it. I like this aspect, being a mom in a new town, but you have to like that.
Pluses:
1) GREAT DAD STROLLER! I'd say 90 percent of the compliments I get on the stroller are from men. It has a nice, space-age, gadget-y appeal. Men adore it.
2) Small footprint, which makes shopping in cramped spaces really easy, and the stroller switches to a handtruck style, which is good for going up and down stairs (but be warned, it takes a little bit of practice to get good at switching between stroller and handtruck mode).
3) Great shocks, easy push, very maneuverable. While it cannot compete with pneumatic tire (bike-style) strollers for off-roading, it's no problem with all but the most difficult curbs and bumps.
4) Plush, cute textiles, particularly in the bassinet. My son used his bassinet as a bed for his first four months.
5) Fully adjustable for kid: adjustible footrest, infant insert is actually useful and comfortable and all straps can be widened/raised as child grows up into the high seat-back. Recline is nearly complete in face-mom mode, and decent in face-forward mode. This stroller truly ranges from newborn to a fairly old toddler.
6) Fully adjustable for parent: I LOVE the handle, which can be used in all sorts of configurations depending on preference, and at a very wide range of heights. The stride is quite long, so there's no kicking the back of stroller (I am short but with a very very long fast stride).
7) The basket is enormous and completely accessible, more so than any other stroller. And it folds flat when empty, so that it doesnt look messy.
8) Though the company does not recommend it, the basket board can hold the weight of a small toddler. (This makes the push much harder though.)
9) It's comparitively light (23 lbs), when measured against reversibles. The Bug Frog/Gecko is lighter at 20 pounds, but it does not have an adjustable handle, and the Cam is heavier at 24 pounds; almost all other reversibles are in the 27-37 pound range.
10) Though made of plastic, the plastic is industrial-grade and rugged. I have never had the slightest qualm about the solidity of the buggy.
11) It's great for social types; you'll meet lots of people.
Cons:
1) Though relatively light, the Xplory is cumbersome. It does not easily fold flat, and the only reasonably slim fold requires taking off the seat (you can leave the seat on, but then it takes up a lot of space). I'm not sure about it fitting with extra room in a smaller car.
2) Steep learning curve. You'll want to practice with it empty in your house a couple of times before taking into the wild. However, after you get the hang of it, it's not an issue.
3) The plastic can scuff up quickly on stairs if you're not careful.
4) Not an off-roader, which, for the price, could be an issue. You'll need at least one more stroller if you get this one, at least a lightweight. The Xplory can off-road minimally, but I wouldn't want to take it on a 2 hour plus hike. If you only want two strollers, my suggestion would be to pick up a Euro-Baby Fastfold Fts Black (Micralite Fastfold) as the secondary travel/light stroller, since it does have pneumatic tires so it does more heavy-duty offroading. This combo has covered nearly everything I've wanted to do. If you're only doing malls, groomed trails, shopping, and bumpy curbs, the Xplory alone is fine, if a little cumbersome for getting in and out of the car. The one GOOD thing about the two-piece fold is that this reduces the weight of getting it into the car.
5) Accessories are expensive. Alternative footmuffs are difficult because they need to be split on the bottom to accomodate the "mast" (the center piece that holds up the chair). These are readily available in Europe, but hard to find here. You might keep an eye out for the split Red Castle Footmuff, which are sometimes found at a discount. It's also harder to find cup-holders and such, which are not available from the manufacturer.
All in all, I could not be happier with my purchase. The only reasonable alternative is the Joolz Bloom, which is not easy to find in the US. The Skate is also worth a peak, but for me, I'm totally happy with my Xplory. It probably helps that I bought in good used condition, saving me a bundle.
Excellent feedback from everybody!!!!![]()
Stokke Xplory stroller is a Wonderful Stroller!!!
My wife and I shopped for a stroller for 3 months browsing through internet, visiting retail stores, and talking with many groups of mothers. At first we were hesitant to buy Stokke thinking that it's just a fancy and luxurious, but nothing-more kind of stroller. However the thing about this stroller that we loved was how this tall stroller, unlike any other strollers in the market, gave us a huge relief to our body since both of us had back problems. We didn't have to bend our backs as we worked our boy in and out of the stroller.
Another great feature we loved about this stroller was the bassinet. He sleeps so well on it as if it was his own crib. It's nice, spacious and comfortable. Now he's six months old and he still sleeps on it. The other day we had a trip to Vancouver, Canada and took our Stokke along with us. Amazingly, he had no problem sleeping throughout the night because of this bassinet.
Last but not least, every day we are enchanted by people who pass by us at the shopping mall, grocery stores, and outdoors. Because our stroller has a different look and style unlike other ordinary strollers, we are always stopped and surrounded by people who tell us how great and amazing our stroller is. However, that's not why we are excited. We are excited not because they commented on our stroller but because they complement on our baby who sleeps and plays in that stroller bassinet or seat.
We are grateful for our baby and happy with the stroller! It's worth every penny of it.
